Introduction from the photobook, by the artist:

[translation L'Ascenseur Végétal]

" « Free man you will alway cherish the sea »

Baudelaire, surprisingly, writes these words, when modernity tumbles into unbridled industrialization, pandemic pollution, exponential over-exploitation of the oceans, that are certainly at the origins of life and a part of the climate equilibrium.

I wanted to photograph with sobriety and radicality, in their reflections of the sky, at sundown and when the night is falling, in light and in darkness. Maximum contrast, between the purity of water and the suggestion of oil slicks. Between bliss and apocalypse. Between desire and fear. But also fascination for the end of times, beauty of terror. It is as much questioning the future of the oceans as questioning ourselves.

Because, returning to Baudelaire, who was famously obsessed by a quest for modernism: « The sea is your mirror; you are contemplating your own soul ». "

First photobook of the artist, a series of photographs of the surface of the sea in Lanzarote, a radical and virtually monochrome work on texture, on matter, but also on exhiliration and losing oneself in the images, in the waters, that carry us away.

This book was initially released in 2020 in a self-published first edition of 100 copies. We are offering here the second edition of 150 copies published by Amers Editions. This second edition is identical to the first one, outside of the "technical" mentions of the second edition (and in particular the name of the publisher on the front cover and the title page).

NB: Amers Editions produced a second printing of 300 copies of this photobook in 2022; but we are offering the LAST COPIES of the FIRST PRINTING by Amers Editions (2021.)

Copies signed by the artist. Bare binding, or actually "no binding" as the pages as simply glued back to back, for a really beautiful, simple and slick design.

  • .Sold out. Presentation by Julia Borissova: " I am fond of the artist book form and have created about 14 books over the past 10 years. Most of the titles are sold out. Some time ago I decided to rethink some of my projects and realize them in a new, more concentrated form of zines. In almost half a year I managed to implement this idea and today I am...

  • Project presentation by Christopher Héry: "22:19 illustrates the wide range of emotions - fear, boredom, camaraderie, relief - that two young men have experienced during an intense 8-minute period. This book has been designed to slowly reveal the location, the story, and its ending, to the viewer in a cinematographic manner. Time is the key element here...
