Introduction from the photobook, by the artist:         [translation L'Ascenseur Végétal]

" « Free man you will alway cherish the sea »

Baudelaire, surprisingly, writes these words, when modernity tumbles into unbridled industrialization, pandemic pollution, exponential over-exploitation of the oceans, that are certainly at the origins of life and a part of the climate equilibrium.

I wanted to photograph with sobriety and radicality, in their reflections of the sky, at sundown and when the night is falling, in light and in darkness. Maximum contrast, between the purity of water and the suggestion of oil slicks. Between bliss and apocalypse. Between desire and fear. But also fascination for the end of times, beauty of terror. It is as much questioning the future of the oceans as questioning ourselves.

Because, returning to Baudelaire, who was famously obsessed by a quest for modernism: « The sea is your mirror; you are contemplating your own soul ». "

First photobook and self-published project, a series of photographs of the surface of the sea in Lanzarote, a radical and virtually monochrome work on texture, on matter, but also on exhiliration and losing oneself in the images, in the waters, that carry us away.

Copies signed by the artist. Bare binding, or actually "no binding" as the pages as simply glued back to back, for a really beautiful, simple and slick design.

  • Text Calligraphy of an Enigma by Fabien Ribéry : "This is the story of a chance encounter, a mad love, a path of desire connecting East and West. It is a story of grace, a story of flights that mustn’t be late. It is the music of the heart, the beating drum, set in the no-man’s land between empty and full, full and empty.
