Julia Borissova was born in Tallinn, Estonia. She lives in St.Petersburg, Russia where she studied at the Academy of Photographic skills in 2009-2010.

Julia Borissova employs a great variety of photographic techniques and styles. Her interest is in the conceptual side of the work. Over the last years, she focused her artistic expression on photobook projects that she self-publishes and often produces herself as handmade objects.

Her work has been exhibited internationally in solo and group shows. Her last solo exhibitions include Maybe an Island, at the Art-Village Vitland, Kaliningrad, Russia, in 2018, and 'Julia Borissova – Artists’ Books Exhibition', at The Bower Ashton Library, Centre for Fine Print Research, in UWE Bristol, UK, in 2017.


She was recently shortlisted for the Kassel Dummy Award 2018 - Fotobookfestival, and the  Facts and Clarifications Festival, Riga Photomonth, 2017.
