Michael Wolf started his career in 1994 as a photojournalist, spending eight years working in Hong Kong for the German magazine Stern. With the decline of this industry, he decided in 2003 to devote himself to fine-art photography projects. He is a photographer of the city, of its immensity, of the sometimes horrifying urbanisation, and of the ways humans adapt, cooperate or resist.
A large retrospectice exhibition of all his main series took place at the Rencontres d'Arles festival in the summer 2017.
His main publisher is Peperoni, with whom he published Architecture of Density, Tokyo Compressions, Bottrop-Ebel 76 and an ongoing series of smaller books about the particularisms of the streets of Hong-Kong and of the people who live and work in these streets...
