Carolyn Drake's Two Rivers is a wonderful and gorgeous book !

Stunning images, an original design and a beautifully crafted production (by SYB), carry us through a story and a journey that are really captivating... This books grabs you and won't let go ! It is really a success on all levels, that appeared in many lists of the best 2013 photobooks.

The story is centered on the Amu-Daria and Syr-Daria, the two rivers that supply blood to Central Asia, from the Pamir and Tian-Shan mountains, to the hardly surviving Aral Sea.

The book takes us on a upstream journey from the environmental disaster around the Aral Sea to the communities living at the rivers' sources. On this path, we come across modern cities and communities that live according to ancestral traditions, and we have a straight look at how both populations are affected, sometimes to downright poverty, by the decline of the two rivers.

The artist shows us the way in this journey, focused on the traditions, on the people, the house interiors, and leaving a important place to the background of these lives: the beauty and the colours of the landscapes. Carolyn Drake can make a great photograph out of anything; the inherent quality of the images is impressive, whatever the subject or the light. The dynamic sequencing of the images - where the photographs bleed from one page to the next in what feels like deep breaths - finishes to convince you: Two Rivers is a great book, that you want to come back to... often !

Please note that this book is now sold out by the artist, and that we also offer signed copies (see the "Suggestions" tab).

Presentation by TBW Books: " A foreboding meditation in the vein of Southern Gothic literature, Drake's most recent body of work emerged through her collaboration with an enigmatic group of women from Mississippi loosely calling themselves « Knit Club. » The nature of the club is ambiguous. It is a cross between a gang, a cult of mysteries, and a group...

Some time ago I decided to rethink some of my projects and realize them in a new, more concentrated form of zines. In almost half a year I managed to implement this idea and today I am...

This book has been designed to slowly reveal the location, the story, and its ending, to the viewer in a cinematographic manner. Time is the key element here...
