Max Pinckers a tout récemment été désigné lauréat du Prix photographique Ville de Levallois 2013 pour la série The Fourth Wall.

Le livre auto-publié proposé ici présente ce travail réalisé dans les rues de Mumbai (Bombay) et qui fait référence aux films de Bollywood dont l'industrie est abritée dans la ville.

Au cours de ses pérégrinations dans la ville, Max Pinckers demande aux passants de rejouer une scène de film. Le résultat est assez déroutant et déstabilisant, à mi-chemin entre réalité et fiction. Ce livre semble nous raconter une histoire, avec des images souvent très construites, des couples d'images qui s'opposent, échangent et communiquent, dont le fil narratif serait vraiment ténu. Il existe une cohésion certaine entre ces images, mais laquelle ?

La réalisation du livre sur papier journal, en dehors de son originalité et de la réelle réussite de ce choix, vient encore brouiller les pistes avec des coupure de journal ("en gros plan") intercalées !

 

Un livre adoubé par Martin Parr himself qui a nommé le livre pour le prix "Photobook Award 2013" au "Fotobook festival" de Kassel (Allemagne), et l'avait proposé comme "livre de la semaine" sur le site Photo-Eye en juillet 2013.
