Dans ce livre De Middel nous propose une vision de New York bien particulière, dans des tons rouges et sombres, où les êtres humains sont étonnament rares et ont des comportements inattendus, voire bizarres. On se demande quelle est cette ville que De Middel nous montre : New York apparaît quelque peu hostile, avec ses allées sombres, ses grillages, ses murs infinis, et les personnages essayent de la conquérir, harnachés, casqués, ils se démènent pour y trouver leur place sans devenir fous...

 

Toute autre interprétation est possible, pour ce livre-labyrinthe aux messages plus ou moins cachés et aux codes à déchiffrer !
