A really beautiful book about the norias of the Syrian city of Hama on the Orontes river; a book about their power, their beauty, their history and their nobility.

Nicolas Camoisson's images show how the norias play with water and light, how the craftsman build these giant wheels (the largest is 21 m in diameter) with just wood, nails of incredible size, and tools they only maneuver by hand.

A chapter of the book presents - with numerous illustrations by Nicolas Camoisson as well - the history of the norias, the physical principles of how they work, and all the steps of building them.
