Peter Bialobrzeski, German photographer, and professor of photography at the University of the Arts in Bremen, Germany. He's well known for his cityscapes series the City Diaries (published by The Velvet Cell), preferably without people: in his opinion, houses and streets tell a more honest story.

Photo: © Gustav Eckart " I started with a lot of photojournalist stuff, I have been photographing people with AIDS and similar themes. But then I decided I am more interested in the living conditions, in the buildings, not in their inhabitants. "


He studied Politics and Sociology before he became a photojournalist for a local newspaper in Wolfsburg, Germany. He then travelled extensivly in Asia before he went back to study photography at the Folkwangschule in Essen and the LCP in London.

In the last seventeen years he has published seventeen books. Apart from the acclaimed City Diaries series, other successful photobooks include Heimat, Paradise Now, and Nail Houses or the Destruction of Lower Shanghai.


His work has been exhibited in the Laurence Miller Gallery (New-York City), LA Galerie (Frankfurt), and the m97 Gallery (Shanghai).


He has won several awards, including the prestigious World Press Photo Award 2003 and 2010. In 2012 he was honored with the Erich Salomon Award by the German Society of Photographers (DGPh).
