Nobuyoshi Araki is a contemporary Japanese fine art photographer known for his prolific works and erotic imagery. While his photographs are often interested in the daily activities and traditional practices of his homeland, it is Araki's sexual imagery that provokes controversy and fascination.

Nobuyoshi Araki is a contemporary Japanese fine art photographer known for his prolific works and erotic imagery. While his photographs are often interested in the daily activities and traditional practices of his homeland, it is Araki's sexual imagery that provokes controversy and fascination.

Araki often tackles subversive themes, such as the inspired bondage of the Japanese kinbaku style, in his provocative depictions of female nudes.
Graduated from the engineering department of the University of Chiba in 1963, specializing in photography and film direction, he began his career as a photographer in the advertising agency Dentsu. In 1964, he received the Taiyō Prize for "Satchin", a series of photographs of children. In 1971, he married Aoki Yoko. In the process, he publishes at his own expense Sentimental Journey, which documents, halfway between reality and fiction, his wedding and his wedding night. Book to which he owes his carreer as a photographer.
He regularly uses Arākī ア ラ ー キ ー as a signature, which evokes in Japanese the word "anarchy" (anākī).
