Months later, the rains become scarce and the waters slowly return to their original river beds. As a result of this movement of retreat, on the left bank of the river Salimões, where lies the natural reserve of Mamirauá, small ponds are created. In these ponds, many pirarucus, a kind of fish that can often weigh over 300 pounds, find themselves trapped."
