"Le choix des photos. Sélectionnées par quarante-neuf photographes contemporains de renommée internationale, ces images créent une nouvelle histoire originale de la photographie d’aujourd’hui.
Chaque photo présentée nous précise le point de vue de l’auteur, et la reproduction des planches contacts, nous donne l’occasion de comprendre comment le photographe en est venu à faire sa sélection d'une image.
Le commentaire du photographe qui accompagne chaque photographie, éclaire ce choix et permet de mesurer l'importance de ce travail post-prise de vue qui va déterminer l’image la plus forte, celle que le public recevra et mémorisera.
Bien que le processus de sélection d'une photo puisse être complètement intellectuel ou, à l'inverse, émotionnel, il fait la plupart du temps appel à ces deux pôles en même temps. Des considérations telles que le contenu de la photo (l'histoire ou l'idée), sa composition, sa lumière, sa mise au point, son atmosphère et sa qualité visuelle sont quelques-unes des composantes déterminantes. Mais des photographes différents font des choix différents à des moments différents, favorisant un élément plutôt qu’un autre."
