Presentation by Editions Bessard :
"« I started working on the Self Portraits series in 2010. I was shooting in Italy in the summer and while looking for animals to photograph in the countryside, I looked through the camera and saw a reflection of my shadow on an unpaved road against a mountain.
It was a clear day and I was not far from the place where I was born.
From that moment, I decided to build a project on myself. No more people or animals to chase, no more sneak shots of strangers, all I needed now was right in front of me, still, posed, shouting for me to just press the button. So for three years and hundreds of sunny days, I wandered around the countrysides of Italy and the United Kingdom, posing different shadow positions in front of the camera.
As the project progressed, I started to construct my pictures as though the shadows were an integrated element of the landscape that were coming to life because of my interaction with the environment. (...) the photographs were taken from a waist level perspective, casting my reflection onto natural, organic surfaces as grass, soil, rocks, hay, plants and trees. I loved working with these textures and the way they responded to my presence and what they gave back in return, was continually fascinating. »

.Back in stock.Eternal London is a beautiful Black & White series of images made in the streets of London by a stroller with a keen eye, that notices the light, the shapes, the contrasts and offers a rather romanticized sense of the city, with grainy images that are sometimes out of focus, but always working very well in their form of uncluttered...

His focus is not on the framed and caged exotica of zoos but on the ordinary animals that remain with us to some extent: horses, dogs, cats, chickens, pigeons. He shows us a fox, looking sharply at the camera and poised to flee, and there are...

.Back in stock. Introduction by Fabien Ribéry (in French only) : "L'être humain est lourd, terriblement, voilà bien son drama. Lorsque l'on est artiste, poète, compositeur de félicités, il est possible de s'alléger par la grâce du style. Alain Laboile est de ceux-ci, dont l'apesanteur est à la fois une recherche, une éthique et une nostalgie. Quand le...
