"Ces photographies, anciennes ou récentes, ont été réalisées en Europe et au Japon. Mais le temps et le lieu, en l'occurrence, importent peu. Il s'agit essentiellement de rencontres ramassées en elles-mêmes, qui ne contiennent aucune information, ne désignent aucun contexte. Le caractère poétique, si on veut risquer ce qualificatif, du travail d'Anders Petersen tient à cette forme d'abstraction pourtant documentaire. On devine ces gens non pas familiers de l'auteur, mais plutôt saisis dans un moment où une intimité se révèle. La joie et la jouissance procèdent bien souvent ici d'une certaine violence. En ce sens, on peut difficilement qualifier ces images de portraits."
