Ren Hang's photographic work is essentially composed of portraits of nudes, men as well as women. Various accessories can accompany his subjects. The postures, the framing, these accessories serve the omnipresence of desire.
All bodies are thin, supple and relatively hairless, giving the genitals a more impressive impact. Even if he denies that his photography has any meaning or purpose, stating that he only does so because it makes him happy, he admits: "I do not want others to feel that the Chinese are robots without cocks or pussies, or that they have genitals but that they hide them as some kind of secret treasure" he says.
Suffering from depression, he commits suicide on February 24, 2017.
