Vanessa Winship (1960) is an English photographer living in London and Istanbul. Member of Agence VU. After studying film and photography at Westminster University (Polytechnic of Central London), Vanessa Winship began teaching photography and then worked for the National Science Museum in London. She then becomes an independent photographer, working both at home and abroad.

Vanessa Winship has an extremely intimate approach to photography, she is interested in the concepts of borders, territory, longing, history and memory. She seeks to understand how these stories and identities are told and expressed.


In 1998, she won the first prize in the "Arts" category of World Press Photo. The following year, she began a long-term work on the Balkans and received the honorable mention of the Oskar Barnack Award for her subject Albanian Landscape in 2003. In addition to her exhibitions and books, Vanessa Winship's photographs are published in numerous newspapers and magazines, such as Polka Magazine.
