Twin Boat, in Koji Onaka's words at the end of the book is the fraternal twin and little sister of his acclaimed Slow Boat, published about 10 years ago, from images taken at the same period of time.
Also in his words, the narration created by the editor Miwa Susuda, is one of "adolescent first love"...

The beautiful images in the book, from empty indoors to little city streets to train stations to villages, take us on a journey and convey a yearn for togetherness and love; but it seems that the search, the hope, the frustration, are more present than actual love.
The sequencing is very strong in building a sense of longing, through empty seats, grey skies, straight tracks on streets and railways. It feels like the encounters are complicated, the connections are temporary, or missed in some way... the car is in a ditch, the horse in tethered, the streets are empty...

A great book you will go back to quite often !
