Ramadan in Yemen
was the first title published, in 2011, by Éditions Bessard. And, from the very beginning, the high quality standard is obvious, in production, choice of paper and other material, the fonts, the editing, the sequence, each element must meet the highest requirements, to come up with this really beautiful book, this beautiful piece of work.

Ramadan in Yemen is the story of a journey, the reproduction or facsimile of a road book that documents the travelling of the artist for several months in 1993, just before the first notional election in Yemen. Here are handwritten texts, sketches, collages, notes next to the Black & White photographs.

The images are from a poor country, where women are barely visible, but where - in Max Pam's eye at least - people are smiling and welcoming, even when they carry a dagger in their belt or a gun in their hand... Pam takes us across the country from Sanaa up to the mountains while remaining close to the inhabitants; with images from unusual to Cartier-Bresson-like compositions, but always with a strength and a liveliness that makes us travel with him.

This book is listed in "The Photobook: A History volume III" by Martin Parr & Gerry Badger.
We are offering signed copies of the book, with an additional drawing by the artist in the inside of the clamshell cover.
